A RESOLUTION TO ESTABLISH QUALIFYING FEES AND QUALIFYING PERIOD FOR CITY OF WAYCROSS ELECTIONS FOR 2023; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

WHEREAS, O.C.G.A. § 21-2-131 requires the governing authority of a municipality, not later than February 1 of any year in which a general primary, nonpartisan election or general election is to be held, to fix and publish a qualifying fee for candidates for compensated municipal office; and

WHEREAS, O.C.G.A. § 21-2-131 also authorizes the governing authority of a municipality to fix and publish a qualifying fee not to exceed three percent (3%) of the total gross salary of the office paid in the preceding calendar year; and

WHEREAS, Section 13 of the Charter of the City of Waycross sets the salary of a city commissioner in an amount not to exceed $9,600.00 per annum; and

WHEREAS, Section 13 of the Charter of the City of Waycross sets the salary of the mayor in an amount not to exceed $12,600.00 per annum; and

WHEREAS, said matter having been considered.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Commission of the City of Waycross, Georgia, that the qualifying fee for candidates for the election to be held in the year 2023 for the office of City Commissioner (District 4 and District 5) shall be three percent (3%) of the annual compensation of the prospective office and is hereby set at $288.00.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the qualifying fee for the election to be held in the year 2023 for candidates for the office of Mayor shall be three percent (3%) of the annual compensation of the prospective office and is hereby set at $378.00.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk shall publish the amount of the qualifying fee for the office of City Commissioner and Mayor of the City of Waycross.

BE IT FUTH ER RESOLVED that the qualifying period for the November 7, 2023, election will begin on Tuesday. August 22, 2023, and end on Friday, August 25, 2023. Each day qualifying hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and closed from noon until 1:00 p.m. for lunch and will take place City Clerk’s Office, City Hall, 417 Pendleton Street, Waycross, Georgia 31502.
